Global Savvis study finds business growth driving enterprises to hybrid IT outsourcing models
US datacenter services are expected to continue double-digit growth. According to Oppenheimer estimates, outsourced data center revenue is expected to grow at a 4-year CAGR of 10.4% from $11.7 billion in 2012 to 17.4 billion in 2016E. Aggressive Changes in Accounting Practices CTL has made a number of aggressive changes in accounting methodology over the past several quarters: Depreciation Depreciation has been decreased over the past year, from $2.416 million in 1H12 to $2.240 million in 1H13 or a delta of $176 million, despite an increasing CapEx environment. The change in policy has probably benefited EPS. The company provides the following relevant disclosures: 2012 10-K: ” depreciation and amortization expense for Legacy CenturyLink decreased $149 million, or 3.7%, due to annual updates of our depreciation rates for capitalized assets and an out-of-period accounting adjustment depreciation and amortization for Legacy CenturyLink increased $72 million, or 5.0% in 2011 primarily due to higher levels of PP&E ” 2013 2nd Quarter 10-Q: “Depreciation expense decreased for the three and six months ended June 30, 2013 as compared to the three and six months ended June 30, 2012 primarily due to depreciation rate changes of certain telecommunications equipment amortization expense decreased for the three and six months ended June 30, 2013 as compared to the three and six months ended June 30, 2012 partially due to the use of accelerated amortization for a portion of the customer relationship assets.” Capitalized Labor The company has also provided from disclosure on the benefit from a change in rates of capitalized labor: 2012 10-K: “Effective January 1, 2012, we changed our rates of capitalized labor this transition resulted in an estimated $40 million to $55 million increase in the amount of labor capitalized and a corresponding estimated $40 million to $55 million decrease in operating expenses for the year ended December 31, 2012.

CenturyLink Wholesale Receives Five “Best-in-Class” Awards
4 — CenturyLink Intellectual Property, Denver, has been assigned a patent (8,548,152) developed by Jeffrey Leister, Hilliard, Ohio, John Zeigler, Powell, Ohio, and Jennifer Stilgenbauer, Lawrence, Kan., for a “system and method for handling toll free number telephone calls.” The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “A system and method for processing toll free telephone calls by a telecommunications service provider may include receiving, by the telecommunications service provider, a telephone call request for a telephone call being placed to a toll free telephone number from a telephone within a service area of the telecommunications service provider.
